Konijnen, kikkers, muizen, vleermuizen en katten vechten om overleving tegen de Calamity Beasts. Het concept oogt schattig, de mechanics zitten strak in elkaar.
Wat de set kenmerkt
Elke kleur krijgt een vaste dierenstam en elke stam speelt anders. Zwart heeft ratten en gaat voor sacrifice, wit draait om konijnen en go-wide, blauw om vleermuizen met flying tempo, groen om eekhoorns die mana stapelen, rood om vossen die agressief spelen. Dat stam-per-kleur ontwerp maakt limited verrassend leesbaar: je weet bij het openen van een pack meteen waar een kaart hoort.
Mechanisch introduceert de set Valiant (bonus bij solo aanval), Expend (kosten die aflopen naarmate je meer permanents hebt) en Forage (graveyard of tokens opofferen als alternatieve kostprijs). Geen van die mechanics is revolutionair, maar ze passen precies bij de stam-identiteit en zorgen voor een limited-omgeving die door velen als een van de sterkste van de laatste jaren wordt genoemd.
Kaarten die opvallen
Lumra, Bellow of the Woods trekt in Commander volle tafels leeg met haar enter-the-battlefield-effect en is meteen een staple in groene value-decks geworden. Baylen, the Haymaker levert boros-agressiespelers een efficiënte curve-topper. Ral, Crackling Wit voegt een planeswalker toe aan een set die verder juist zonder planeswalkers werkt, en trekt daarmee de aandacht van spelers die anders aan Bloomburrow voorbij zouden lopen. Vren, the Relentless is de rat-sacrifice-commander waar zwarte aggro-decks op wachtten. Camellia, the Seedmiser voegt een sluwe combo-hoek toe voor wie van eekhoorn-tokenstrategieën houdt.
Voor spelers
In limited draait alles om herkenning: zie je vijf dieren van dezelfde stam voorbijkomen, dan weet je het archetype. Dat maakt boosters draften voor beginners toegankelijker dan bij complexere sets. Voor Commander-spelers levert de set meteen bruikbare commanders in bijna elke kleurencombinatie, en de dierenthematiek trekt een publiek aan dat normaal geen kaartje aanraakt.
Voor verzamelaars
398 kaarten in de basisset, evenveel in onze catalogus, dus geen losse promo's of bonuskaarten die het beeld vertroebelen. Let op de alternate art borderless kaarten van de legendarische dieren: die verkopen structureel boven de reguliere versie omdat ze de setidentiteit het best tonen. Showcase-versies met dierenillustraties in kinderboekstijl trekken ook kopers aan die niet eens spelen, puur voor de kunst. Dat soort crossover-vraag stuwt vroege prijzen vaak harder omhoog dan bij een gemiddelde set.
Wat de set nu waard is om te kopen
Bloomburrow is inmiddels ruim twee jaar oud en de eerste hypegolf is allang gaan liggen. Boosterboxen zijn breed verkrijgbaar en de losse kaartprijzen hebben hun bodem grotendeels gevonden, met uitzondering van de sterkste Commander-staples zoals Lumra en Vren, die stabiel blijven door doorlopende vraag uit de EDH-hoek. Voor wie los kaarten wil verzamelen is dit een prima moment: geen speculatieprijzen meer, wel nog volop aanbod. Wie op zoek is naar rendement moet zich richten op de borderless en showcase-versies van de sterkste commanders, niet op de gewone set als geheel. Booster boxen kopen als investering heeft weinig zin meer, daarvoor is de set te breed gedrukt en te lang op de markt.
